Three questions to ask when looking for an attorney

Wouldn’t it be great if all employers would provide continual monetary benefits to injured workers as they recover from their ailments? After all, for many employees, not being able to work is stressful enough because some workers believe that they will lose their jobs altogether. Combine that stress with the inability to earn a living to pay bills, and it is understandable that workers’ compensation benefits are necessary.

Unfortunately, legal action is sometimes necessary to protect an injured worker’s right to workers comp payments. However, most people have never hired a lawyer and may not know what to ask in choosing an attorney. As such, this post will highlight a few questions ask prospective attorneys.

Are there major issues I should be aware of? – An experienced work comp attorney can help you understand some of the issues that can arise in your case. This is especially important if you have suffered previous injuries or have conflicting statements from physicians about how to treat your current injury.

How many workers’ comp cases do you handle? – It is not uncommon for personal injury attorneys to take workers’ comp cases. However, it can be helpful to know how much an attorney’s practice is dedicated to work compensation matters. This can be helpful in learning whether an attorney is a specialist.

What is your experience handling work comp cases like mine? – An attorney’s years of experience may be a key factor in your decision, but it is also helpful to know how they have dealt with cases similar to yours. Yes, every case is different, but having an attorney with experience with your type of case can be helpful.
